Symptoms
- You cannot scan, stage, or remediate an ESXi 5.0 host with Update Manager after importing the ESXi 5.0 offline bundleVMware-ESXi-5.0.0-469512-depot.zip
- This issue does not affect ESX/ESXi 4.x hosts
- You see this error in vSphere Client:
Host cannot download files from Vmware vSphere Update Manager patch store. Check the network connectivity and firewall setup, and check esxupdate logs for details - The esxupdate.log contains the error:
MetadataDownloadError: ('http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:9084/vum/repository/hostupdate/VMW/vmw-ESXi-5.0.0)
Cause
The offline bundle VMware-ESXi-5.0.0-469512-depot.zip is intended for use in conjunction with VMware Auto Deploy. It is not intended to be imported into Update Manager. When the bundle is imported, a conflict is created between the offline bundle and the patches from the online patch depot.
Resolution
If the bundle has already been imported into Update Manager, contact VMware Technical Support. For more information, seeHow to Submit a Support Request.
Take a back-up of your current Update Manager database and explore the options of reinstalling Update Manager. You will be required to reinitialize the Update Manager database. Baselines and Upgrade images will need to be re-created or re-imported.
To prevent this issue from occurring, VMware has added a warning to the Download Store that clarifies the bundle’s use.
