Some Fibre Channel Host Bus Adapters Are Not Initialized When Boot BIOS Is Enabled

Details

Enabling Boot BIOS on Qlogic/Emulex HBAs prevents the HBAs from initializing with the following error message:

PCI resource allocation failure

This problem is caused by the HBAs' memory usage during initial bootup. This is a Qlogic/Emulex third-party limitation.

Solution

IBM suggests rearranging the sequence in which NVRAMs are loaded. The problem can be also be avoided by disabling other devices.
