Summary

This patch provides an update to esxupdate utility to address the following issues:

  • Fixed an issue where esxupdate -l query showed removed RPMs as missing after an upgrade was performed. The removed RPMs are made obsolete by new RPMs in the upgrade and are removed during upgrade installation.
  • Fixed an issue where patches for ESX Server 3.5 would fail to install on a host upgraded from ESX Server 3.0.x that has patches installed on it.

Solution

Symptoms

After an upgrade of ESX Server, esxupdate - query would report removed packages as missing.

esxupdate failed to install ESX Server 3.5 patches because it falsely considered the previously installed ESX Server 3.0.x patches as being newer than the ESX Server 3.5 patches.
