Performing an Operation Simultaneously on Large Number of Virtual Machines Might Cause hostd to Stop Responding

Details

The hostd service might stop responding when you perform an operation, such as power on, clone, suspend, resume, and so on, simultaneously on large number of virtual machines.

Solution

This is a known issue. If the hostd service has stopped responding, restart it by running the following command:
/etc/init.d/mgmt-vmware restart
To avoid this issue, VMware recommends that operations such as power on, clone, suspend, resume, and so on, be performed on fewer number of virtual machines at a time.
