Panic error on ESX Server host with Neterion Network Adapter when booting into Service Console

Details

If you are booting into the service console for troubleshooting, a panic error might occur on ESX Server hosts with Neterion network adapters if you perform multiple boots under these circumstances:
  • You have modified the MTU for the network adapter several times. Modifying the MTU might also make the system unresponsive.
  • After modifying the network adapter's MTU, you attempt to unload the network adapter driver.

Solution

Avoid changing the MTU while using the service console to avoid the panic error. This issue is resolved in ESX Server 3.5.
