Uninstalling PowerPath VE on ESXi 5.0

Purpose

This article provides steps to uninstall PowerPath VE on ESXi 5.0.
 
You may want to use this procedure when:
  • You are unable to remove the PowerPath claimrule using the esxcli storage core claimrule removecommand.
  • Even after a reboot, running the esxcli storage core claimrule list command shows PowerPath.

Resolution

To uninstall PowerPath VE on ESXi 5.0:

  1. Log in to the ESXi host using SSH.
  2. Run this command:

    #esxcli software vib remove -n powerpath.cim.esx -n powerpath.lib.esx -n powerpath.plugin.esx

  3. Reboot host.
  4. Run this command and confirm that PowerPath no longer exists:

    #esxcli storage core claimrule list
